Laptop Keyboard Removal and Replacement Tips

Keyboard Removal Step
  • Remove the battery cover and other accessories.
  • In the battery bay, remove the 3 mm P1 Phillips broad-head screw that secures the keyboard to the base enclosure.
  • Remove the 8.5 mm T8 Torx screw to the right of the battery bay that secures the keyboard to the base enclosure.
  • Remove the 6 mm T8 Torx screw in the accessory bay above the hard disk drive and wireless WAN module.
  • Turn the notebook right side up and open the display panel.
  • Lift up on the rear edges and sides of the keyboard to detach it from the base enclosure and slide it toward the back of the notebook to expose the keyboard ribbon cable and ZIF connector on the system board.
  • Using minimal force, lift the locking bar up on the keyboard ZIF connector and disconnect the keyboard ribbon cable from the system board.
  • Remove the keyboard from the base enclosure.
Keyboard Replacement step
  • Place the keyboard onto the top cover and insert the keyboard ribbon cable into the ZIF connector on the system board.
  • Press the locking bar down to lock the keyboard ribbon cable in the keyboard ZIF connector on the system board.
  • Slide the keyboard forward and toe the tabs on the front of the keyboard into their slots on the top cover.
  • Press along the entire length of the keyboard to secure it into place.
  • Close the display panel and turn the notebook upside down.
  • Replace the 6 mm T8 Torx screw into the accessory bay above the hard disk drive and wireless WAN module.
  • Replace the 8.5 mm T8 Torx screw to the right of the battery bay that secures the keyboard to the base enclosure.
  • In the battery bay, replace the 3 mm P1 Phillips broad-head screw that secures the keyboard to the base enclosure.
  • Replace the battery and accessory cover.
